LONDON – Anthony Marlowe is to join Weber Shandwick’s UK public affairs team in the newly created role of Managing Director, Public Affairs, with a brief to grow the firm’s political and government relations practice.
He joins from Edelman, where he was Deputy Managing Director for Public Affairs. He will report to Rachel Friend, UK CEO, and will work alongside Jon McLeod, Weber Shandwick’s Corporate Financial and Public Affairs Chairman and ex-Sky political journalist, Joey Jones, who is Head of Public Affairs.
The move comes amid an unprecedented rise in client interest in public affairs support, as the UK prepares to leave the European Union, and as political uncertainty remains the norm for businesses and organisations operating across the country.
Rachel Friend commented: “As we look to modernise our approach across all of our communications disciplines, Anthony is a timely arrival. His track record speaks for itself and we look forward to bringing him into our restless and forward-looking approach to further growing the reputation and practice of Weber Shandwick in the UK.”
Jon McLeod added: “Anthony will provide real firepower and energy across our national and global public affairs practice, and brings with him a swathe of complementary skills and industry insights that will help us further grow the political specialism for which Weber Shandwick is rightly known.”
Marlowe specialises in the retail, consumer goods and infrastructure sectors, having advised some of the most high-profile companies operating in the UK today. He has particular experience in government affairs, political media, and crisis and reputation management, working with a number of leading brands who are subject to intense political and media scrutiny. Current and past clients include the Scotch Whisky Association, Samsung, Gatwick Airport, News Corp and Sainsbury’s.
He also has a background in Corporate Social Responsibility, and has written annual CSR reports for FSTE 100 and other listed companies. He has also worked as part of in-house communications teams, including a secondment as the Acting Head of Government Affairs at Diageo GB.
