    Our 18-month programme of creative, sustained and carefully targeted media relations for Sochi 2014 was vital in Russia securing its first ever Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

    Media events in 29 different countries spread the bid’s Gateway to the Future message internationally. Experts from our global network harnessed support for Sochi 2014 against a highly charged geo-political background.

    It is widely recognised that Sochi 2014 won the ‘media battle’ between competing bids. We generated over 17,000 pieces of coverage globally. ‘You only need to open a newspaper or turn on a television to see the support for Sochi 2014,’ said IOC Evaluation Commission chair Chiharu Igaya.

    Since helping Sochi to secure the Olympics for 2014, Weber Shandwick has continued to work for the Organising Committee for the Olympic Games, the body set up to prepare for Sochi 2014.
