Junior Creative Drew Bunyan's Interview With The Times On The Launchpad Internship
Junior Creative, Drew Bunyan, was recently interviewed by The Times in a feature on internships. He shared his experience with our Launchpad internship programme.

Where do you live?
The sunny plains of South London!
How did you find out about the internship – and what made you apply?
A friend of mine recommended checking out Creative Access, and lo and behold shortly after I saw The Creative Services Internship at Weber Shandwick! I visited the website and instantly fell in love with the work I saw, knowing this was an opportunity I couldn’t miss.
What does a typical day involve?
We’ll be given a brief to solve for a client and find ways to creatively execute it. Ideation is a huge part of the role, but research is too! A lot of what we do is rooted in insights, so it’s always interesting to find unique angles for approaching a subject. I also get to engage in design to really help bring ideas to life visually.
What kind of qualities do you need? And any specific qualifications?
Dare I say creativity? An interest in all things is a great start as you never know what brief is coming next and what areas of the internet you may need to explore. You need to be able to work independently as much as a team player, and managing your time is key too. Working across different projects means you’ll have to divide and conquer to meet deadlines.
What are the best things about the internship?
My internship was a 3-in-1 experience. I started with Production where I supported live campaigns, then over to design where I could experiment with software and create graphics. Lastly, I got to play with the creatives, mustering up campaign ideas discovering the wonders of copywriting and art direction. This opportunity really allowed me to open up my creative brain again after, let’s just say a little while…
And what are the most challenging?
It’s big! I’d never worked in an office of this scale before. The corporate world can certainly feel daunting but taking it one day at a time you slowly get to know everyone and in turn feel more comfortable.
Why would you recommend doing an internship to others?
There’s nothing to lose and so much to gain! Whether you enjoy your time or not, you’ll only be picking up valuable new skills and life lessons (but it’s safe to say I’ve loved every bit of mine).
And what advice would you give to people considering applying for an internship?
Make sure it’s one you feel you’ll genuinely enjoy. It’s a brilliant stepping stone into any industry as it exposes you to work life and skills. And just because you don’t make it into the first one don’t give up. Trust me…
What more do you feel needs to be done to support for young people to access suitable internships?
There are many a job fairs out there, but they can either be costly or overwhelming!! More information in its most simple form is what’s needed. This will help young people understand which industry may suit them best, and I think TikTok is doing a great job at this.
And please feel free to add anything else you’d like to get across to readers.
Don’t give up, a hundred no’s can only one day lead to a yes. Be persistent, recognise when you feel disheartened by the application process, step back, then try again. Consider it the start of your grind, which may be tough at times, but it will definitely pay off in the end!
