Sophie began her career in 2013 as a fresh-faced English Literature graduate, dazzled by the bright lights of London. With 11 years’ experience under her belt, 8 of which have been spent at Weber Shandwick, she is proud of what she has achieved to date. Now an SVP in the Corporate Enterprise team specialising in corporate reputation, Sophie leads some of the agency’s largest corporate clients in the UK. Outside of work, she loves to travel and was able to take a six-month sabbatical to explore South America in 2022.

What’s the coolest (or weirdest) place a project
has taken you?

Singapore – I organised two client press trips
to the Lion City in 2018.

What’s the best thing you’ve ever seen happen
inside the Weber Shandwick offices?

Our new business process – watching the brightest
talent from across the Weber Shandwick Collective
come together to craft strategic, innovative and
integrated responses.

What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve
ever been given?

Emulate the qualities of the leaders who inspire you.

Who inspires you and why?

Our UK CEO Helen Bennett is a pillar of strength
and her razor-sharp vision and ambition for the
agency is complemented by genuine compassion.
I will never forget her superb leadership during
the pandemic – she was in the trenches with us,
professional and personally. A truly modern and
inspiring leader!

What does the ‘Era of Earned’ mean to you?

My career started in media relations, so I’ve
always been passionate about earned storytelling.
For me, the ‘Era of Earned’ is about how businesses
and brands can succeed by being authentic and having
the courage to say what they stand for.

What is the best thing you have learnt since
joining Weber Shandwick?

How to help clients innovate. The best part of
my job is partnering with clients to transform
their communications – by reaching new audiences,
shifting perceptions or experimenting with new channels.

What’s the best opportunity you have had since joining Weber Shandwick?

Leading the IBM account across the EMEA region.
It is a privilege to work with this ambitious client
and colleagues across the TWSC network.

Name something new you have learnt since joining
the agency, that you didn’t know before

How to overcome imposter syndrome. I used to
waste time doubting my skills and perspective.
Now, thanks to the support and mentorship I have
received at Weber Shandwick, I am confident in my
ability to be a trusted advisor.

Describe a typical day at Weber Shandwick

My day is typically split 50/50 between supporting
clients with ongoing campaigns and finding new ways
for our practice to grow and innovate.

If you got a place on Access all Areas where
would you travel to and why?

Tokyo is my dream location. I would love to
immerse myself in the city and its culture.
