Trending this month

What New Scientist audiences are reading right now

The New Scientist desk is actively looking for pitches on longevity, neuroplasticity, sexual wellness, and angles that challenge long-held beliefs. Head of Features Claudia Canavan has also mentioned that researcher profiles perform well, especially when the scientist has a personal or lived connection to their field of study.

Telegraph Health team zooms in on video

Acting Head of Health Features Alice Wilkinson shared that the desk is hunting for fresh, investigative angles on current news (e.g., exploring the benefits of GLP-1s beyond weight loss). With a massive internal push for TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube content, pitching a strong visual or platform-specific hook from the outset is another way to secure their attention.

RIP midnight embargoes

Consensus is shifting: 00:01 embargoes are defunct, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Our advice? Zero in on 1-2 priority outlets and tailor the embargo to their editorial meetings or popular placement times. For morning broadcast, that usually means 6am, whereas online news desks prefer 12pm or 6pm to catch audiences reading during their downtime. If you’re issuing as immediate release, it needs to be out before 8am.
